Aserbaidschan verfügt über 4,8 Millionen Hektar landwirtschaftliche Nutzfläche und eine große klimatische Vielfalt – ideale Voraussetzungen für den Anbau verschiedenster Agrarprodukte. Der Lebensmittelkonsum ist in den letzten zehn Jahren um über 50 Prozent gestiegen. Die Lebensmittelindustrie erwirtschaftet jährlich rund 2 Milliarden Dollar und macht etwa ein Drittel der verarbeitenden Industrie aus. Gleichzeitig trägt der Agrarsektor trotz eines hohen Beschäftigtenanteils nur rund 5 Prozent zum BIP bei.
Dies unterstreicht das ungenutzte Potenzial in Produktivität und Innovation. Aserbaidschan setzt daher auf die Modernisierung von Landwirtschaft und Lebensmittelverarbeitung.
